Made to Order Clothing, Made in the UK

Every piece that you see on our website is made after it is ordered. We don't have huge amount of stock sitting in a warehouse gathering dust, and never do new runs of pieces when we close them. This page explains how that works, what it means for you orders timeline and how it fits. 

What does 'Made to Order' actually mean?

The majority of clothing brands make their garments first and sell second. They will guess how many pieces will be sold, and if they produce that number and don't sell out they resort to discounting or destroying whatever is left over. 

Made to order reverses that cycle. We release a collection over a set time period, and produce the exact amount that has been bought. We don't create any surplus because we aren't guessing how many items we will sell. And we don't allow thousands of items to be sold because our factories can only handle about a dozen orders at a time.

Why we make clothing this way in the UK

There are a few reasons we decided to do it this way. With small runs in British factories our cost to produce a garment is significantly higher. However we are able to support British business and have British excellence in every piece. If we were to produce overseas where the laws are different and we can't have a finger on the pulse we would be required to make before ordering, therefore being made to order allows us to stay a British made brand. 

And the other reason is we would rather not produce clothes that nobody wears. Destruction and pollution from over production of clothing is a huge issue for the planet, and at Stadion we don't want to contribute to that.

What it means for delivery

Production takes four to six weeks from the day you order, depending on how many pieces are ahead of yours in the queue. Delivery sits on top of that. You will hear from us at each stage instead of guessing where your order is. 

If you need something for a particular date, email before you order and we will tell you honestly whether it can be done.

What it means for fit

Made to order is not made to measure, and we would rather say so plainly than let it be assumed. Garments are produced in standard sizes. What it does mean is that every size is genuinely available for as long as a collection is open.

Every product page lists the height of the model and the size worn, and carries its own size guide with the real measurements of that garment. If you are between sizes, email us and we will tell you which way to go. We would rather spend ten minutes on that than process a return which might end up contributing to the waste we are looking to avoid.

What it means for price

You are paying for cloth and construction. Fabric sourced in the UK, made in small runs in London, finished by hand where it matters. There is no logo licence and no wholesale markup sitting on top, because we sell direct, the price is the garment.

If it is not right when it arrives

You have 14 days from delivery to change your mind and another 14 days to send it back. Made to order does not mean final sale. If it is a size issue, email us before you return anything and we will arrange the exchange. The full terms are in our returns policy.

Nothing is restocked

Collections are made in limited numbers and closed when we decide to close them. Pieces are not restocked and they do not reappear in a later season. That is a consequence of the model rather than a tactic. There is no standing inventory to reorder from.
